There are many songs that have had a tremendous impact on my life. Perhaps the most impactful is a song most people have never even heard of – Wonderland, by Norwegian indie folk band Kalandra.

There are two interpretations I pull from the song, both seem to be centered around loss. One interpretation is that she is leaving the world she knew to find herself. In the other, she’s dying. Regardless, listening to the track hits me in a significant and painful way that pushes me to understand myself on an intimate level. I have already asked my wife to play the song at my funeral, as I feel it defines me so well in life, and in death.
